Low-Income Weatherization Assistance for Landlords
Want to make your rental properites more attractive to current and future tenants? We may be able to help.
The Low-Income Weatherization Assistance Program includes rental properties. To qualify, your properties must be within program boundaries (at right) and have tenants in residence who meet certain income requirements (below). Renters who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) automatically meet the income requirements. Priority is given to the elderly, families with children, people with high energy bills and people with disabilities.

You can even have work done on multi-family homes. In order to qualify, in addition to the boundary requirements, properties must have the minimum number of tenants in residence who meet income requirements -- 50 percent of tenants for properties of four units or less or 66 percent for properties of five or more units.
If your properties meet these requirements, the Low-Income Weatherization Assistance Program can pay 50 percent or more of the cost for things like caulking to seal air leaks; adding insulation to floors, walls and attics; cleaning and tuning of furnaces and air conditioners; and water heater upgrades and pipe insulation. You, as the property owner, cover just a small percentage of the costs to make your homes more comfortable and more energy efficient for your renters.
If you think you have renters who meet these qualifications, please contact the LIWAP program at 816-513-3025 so we can set up an informational session for both you and your tenants.
